The integrated multi-sports arena in Dwarka’s Sector 19B is a public-private partnership project led by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). It encompasses a cricket-cum-football stadium, with an estimated cost of ₹350 crore. Recently, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena laid the foundation stone for this international sports facility. The project spans 51 acres and is being undertaken by real estate developer Omaxe, with a concession period of 30 years. Construction is expected to be completed within three years, and the facility is slated to open by January 2026.
Saxena highlighted that the foundation stone ceremony coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. He emphasized the significant improvement in Indian athletes’ performance at international events over the past 7-8 years. The government’s focus on sports and encouragement for citizen participation has contributed to an increased medal tally in global competitions.
Apart from the 30,000-seat international cricket-cum-football stadium, the facility will feature an indoor multi-sports area accommodating 2,000 spectators. Additionally, there will be a sports club with at least 3,000 members and other amenities for sports such as swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, and table tennis. These facilities will also be accessible to the local community on a pay-and-play basis.
